CONCACAF Brings One Of Soccer’s Biggest Rivalries To San Diego

No doubt, Mexico and El Salvador have been one of Central America’s most storied rivalries in soccer history.

And on Sunday, July 9th, these teams are bringing every ounce of their bitter battle to San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium for the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Having felt defeat twice from Mexico in GC history (2002 and 2011), the question is will El Salvador’s appetite for sweet revenge gain them the goals, or will Mexico prove their champion status once again?!

The opening round double-header on July 9th will also play host to Curacao and Jamaica – an equally interesting story, as this game will be Curacao’s first-ever Gold Cup appearance.

Taking place every two years, the CONCACAF Gold Cup includes North America, Central America and the Caribbean.

Drawing large crowds and millions of television viewers across the region, the Gold Cup is a celebration of soccer, sportsmanship, and culture.

The 2017 matches will take place in 14 U.S. cities from July 7th through 26th.

The winner of the 2017 tournament will win continental bragging rights and an assured spot in the CONCACAF Cup play-in game to qualify for the 2021 FIFA Confederations Cup, if needed.
