Come in to Ballast Point every Tuesday and Thursday at 6pm, grab a pint and learn something new! These workshop discussions are held for free in the brewery’s old tasting area.

Here’s a quick run-down of upcoming workshops:

1/5 – Recipe Design: Beer is a balancing act, and it’s more than just maltiness and bitterness. This workshop will help you get started in the right direction for building your own balanced beers.

1/10 – Kegging Demo: Interested in getting into kegging? We’ll demonstrate the kegging process and show you the whole new world that opens up when you have a draft system to add to your brewing setup. Like our Tuesday-Thursday workshops, these biweekly, Tuesday demonstrations are free and held by the front desk.

1/12 – Lagers: Despite how ubiquitous it is, lager is actually a very difficult style to brew well. Without high alcohol or robust flavors to hide behind, off-flavors can be quite noticeable. Stop in to find out how to brew yourself a quality, quaffable lager!

1/17 – Malt: There are dozens of different kinds of malts out there, and sometimes it’s hard to get an idea of what they’ll bring to your beer by just munching on them. Well, come on in, we’ve just put the kettle on, and we’ve got a couple malts we’d like you to try!

1/19 – Home Draft System: Interested in having draft beer available at home? Already have a kegerator, but plagued with problems? Stop and we’ll discuss the best fixes to everyone’s favorite appliance!

1/24 – Bottling Demo: Just finished your first batch, eh? Your ready to bottle? If you’re still feeling a little nervous about putting your precious suds into capped glass, then come on in this Tuesday and we’ll walk you through it!

1/26 – Going All Grain: Think you can’t brew all grain? Think again. We’re here to tell you that brewing beer from scratch is not as daunting a task as it seems. Stop in, grab a pint, and let us walk you through it.

1/31 – Cider: Making a cool, refreshing apple cider is easier than you think! Come in to learn the ins and outs of turning that rosy-cheeked fruit into effervescent joy.

2/2 – Beer Smith: Tired of inconsistencies in your brews? Ready to dial in your efficiency? It may be time to try out a home brew software program with all the bells and whistles. We’ll show you how to build your recipe, set up your setup, even compare your beer to BJCP standards to best impress those judges!

2/7 – Kegging Demo: Interested in getting into kegging? We’ll demonstrate the kegging process and show you the whole new world that opens up when you have a draft system to add to your brewing setup. Like our Tuesday-Thursday workshops, these biweekly, Tuesday demonstrations are free and held by the front desk.

2/9 – Red & Amber Ale: Hoppy or malty, dry or sweet, clean or esthery, and right around 15 SRM Irish reds and hoppy ambers are always a crowd pleaser. Stop in to discuss the ins and outs of different recipes!

2/14 – Hop Test: If you’re looking to experiment with new hops, but don’t want to risk a 5 gallon batch on a mere whim, we’ve got the perfect strategy to isolate the hop flavor. Stop in for more details, and some excellent hop samples!

2/16 – Home Draft Systems: Interested in having draft beer available at home? Already have a kegerator, but plagued with problems? Stop in and we’ll discuss the best fixes to everyone’s favorite appliance!

2/21 – Bottling Demo: Just finished your first batch, eh? Your ready to bottle? If you’re still feeling a little nervous about putting your precious suds into capped glass, then come on in this Tuesday and we’ll walk you through it!

2/22 – Brew in a Bag: BIAB is a method of all-grain brewing that allows a kind transition from brewing with extract to brewing with all grain. BIAB does requre a larger pot (at least 8gal), a wort chiller (for the larger pot), and a large sparging bag, but does not require a mash tun with a false bottom or a hot liquor tank with a sparge arm. This workshop will include a demonstration of the mashing, lautering and sparging processes.

2/28 – Mead: Fermented from honey, this versatile beverage once fueled Viking warriors and Celtic poetry. Stop in to be a part of keeping its ancient mysticism alive!
