Explore San Diego’s Secret Speakeasies

Did you know that San Diego was one of the busiest cities importing illegal booze from across the border? You’re invited to explore San Diego’s Prohibition-Era history in a unique way as you spend the evening visiting a few of San Diego’s speakeasies known for craft cocktails, sultry décor, and hidden entryways.

Expedition: San Diego's Secret Speakeasies

The Prohibition-Era experience

As your professional guide walks you through the Gaslamp, you’ll hear stories of how the city was once one of the largest red-light districts on the West Coast, and how thirsty patrons secretively flocked to underground parties to imbibe on illegal elixirs during the Prohibition era.

On the tour, you’ll learn about some of the people who risked their lives and reputation to make sure the party continued in San Diego. You’ll learn how booze was transported, where it was stored, and how bartenders got creative to make their drinks popular.

Signature cocktails await!

Three San Diego speakeasies are on this tour and each stop will feature a signature cocktail from its in-house mixologist as well as a neat sample of Old Forester’s Whiskey Row Series. Also during this tour, you be the judge, as you learn about Old Forester and take part in a bonus tasting of each mixologist’s take on the classic Old Fashioned.

We encourage guests to start the night by grabbing dinner at a nearby Gaslamp restaurant. While light bites will be served throughout the tour, you will want to make sure you have eaten prior to immersing yourself in this Prohibition Era experience.
