2021 marks the 6th Ales N’ Rails celebration, which brings together local breweries and train-loving merrymakers to support the nation’s only accredited model railroad museum. During the fundraiser, all six of the museums’ model railroad layouts will be in full operation. The festivities also include beer tastings, an opportunity drawing, and an ugly sweater contest. This year marks an important milestone, as the fundraiser falls on the 40th anniversary of the museum’s first public opening in early December 1981.

The San Diego Model Railroad Museum (SDMRM) is the only model railroad museum in the nation accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. SDMRM uses a variety of programming to further its mission to research, collect, preserve and present the heritage of American railroading using educational programs, displays, toy trains, and scale models of California railroads. For 40 years, SDMRM has served as a premier resource of model railroading and sparked curiosity in the minds of families in San Diego and around the world.
