Wong Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest
Monday, October 3 | 8PM | The Loft
Wong Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest is a comedic multimedia solo performance about mental illness among Asian American women. Combining monologues, movement and a host of pop culture references, Kristina Wong appropriates visual materials such as print brochures and TV advertisements dealing with mental illness, using them as comedic foils to the seriousness of the subject. Post-performance panel with Kristina Wong, Windi Sasaki (Associate Director of Asian Pacific Islander Middle Eastern Desi American Programs and Services – APIMEDA), and Dr. Louie Limas (Counseling and Psychological Services – CAPS).
Friday, October 7 | 8PM | Mandeville Auditorium
Lyrically poignant with hip-hop and Latin folk major influences, Fémina is Argentine soul music with a purpose. The harmony-soaked vocals and electro-folk charisma of the Trucco sisters propels a new project by this acclaimed female powered band and carries messages of equality and empowerment.
