Rancho La Puerta’s Culinary Week Celebrates Baja California’s World-Class Food Scene

Rancho La Puerta’s Culinary Week brings together some of the region’s most acclaimed chefs for a weeklong celebration that showcases exactly why Baja California’s world-class food scene has captured international attention.

Located just a short drive from San Diego in the hills of Tecate, Mexico, this immersive experience features hands-on cooking classes, wine pairings, and farm-to-table experiences with an exceptional lineup of culinary talent.

The Chef Lineup That Has Us Excited

The 2025 roster reads like a who’s who of Baja culinary excellence. Chef Reyna Venegas, Executive Chef at La Cocina Que Canta and Bocuse d’Or Mexico Manager, brings Michelin-level expertise to the week’s programming.

Chef Claudette Zepeda, Iron Chef Mexico winner and Top Chef alum who founded Chispa Hospitality, represents the innovative spirit that’s made Baja cuisine globally recognized.

Chef Claudia Sandoval, MasterChef U.S. winner and MasterChef Latinos judge, adds her cookbook author expertise, while Chef Javier Plascencia brings serious credentials as a Baja culinary trailblazer, James Beard nominee, and newly awarded Michelin-starred chef for Animalón.

Winemaker Kristin Magnussen from Lechuza Vineyards rounds out the lineup, bringing wines featured on The French Laundry’s wine list.

The Rancho La Puerta Difference

What makes this culinary week special is the setting and philosophy. Rancho La Puerta has drawn visitors for decades with its holistic mind-body-soul approach to wellness, and the acclaimed culinary program reflects that same thoughtfulness.

Enjoy nourishing, pescatarian meals made with freshly harvested produce from the resort’s six-acre organic garden, Tres Estrellas.

The Communal dining experience encourages connection, while hands-on cooking classes at La Cocina Que Canta with visiting guest chefs provide real learning opportunities. Bazar Del Sol espresso and wine bar and Tierra Alegre juice bar offer additional spaces to explore the resort’s beverage program.

Week Highlights

The programming balances formal events with hands-on learning. Saturday’s Welcome Reception with cocktails and canapés sets the tone, followed by Sunday’s Baja wine and honey tasting plus plant-based dinner by Chef Claudia Sandoval.

Tuesday and Wednesday feature the core educational programming with hands-on classes led by Chefs Sandoval, Zepeda, and Plascencia, plus a Tacos & Tostadas Feast and wine tasting with Kristin Magnussen.

Thursday’s Multi-course Chef’s Table Dinner paired with local wines represents the week’s culinary peak, while Friday’s Farewell celebration brings everything together with cocktails and bites.

Why This Cuisine Matters

The region’s culinary scene has exploded onto the international stage in recent years, combining indigenous ingredients and techniques with global influences and exceptional local wine production.

The fact that multiple Michelin-starred and James Beard-nominated chefs are participating speaks to the serious culinary reputation this area has developed.

For San Diego food lovers, this represents an accessible way to dive deep into a cuisine that’s literally next door but often overlooked in favor of more distant culinary destinations.

The Farm-to-Table Experience

The emphasis on Tres Estrellas organic farm and pescatarian dining reflects how the cuisine naturally aligns with current wellness and sustainability trends. You’re not just eating great food, you’re experiencing a food system that prioritizes environmental responsibility and health-conscious preparation.

Rancho La Puerta’s Culinary Week offers the perfect opportunity to experience why Baja California’s world-class food scene continues to gain recognition from culinary experts worldwide.
