New Village Arts To Unveil Dea Hurston New Village Arts Center
New Village Arts is proud to unveil the Dea Hurston New Village Arts Center as the first arts center in the country to be named after a Black woman in the past 50 years. They are especially proud to honor Dea Hurston, a San Diego trailblazer for underrepresented communities in the arts.

Renovations elevated the theater-focused space into a bonafide arts center with expanded offerings and capabilities for performances, education and more.
Major upgrades include a new vibrant exterior, the Sahm Family Arts Education Center, naming of the Conrad Prebys Theatre, a one-of-a-kind live performance venue, expanded lobby space including the Patrick Farley Slainte! bar and more.
Dea Hurston New Village Arts Center Grand Reopening Celebration

On January 28 New Village Arts is also hosting a Grand Reopening Community Celebration open house where community members are invited to visit the new space and participate in art projects, improvisation games and more.
“The Ferryman” debut

On February 4 New Village Arts will open its debut production at the Dea Hurston New Village Arts Center with Jez Butterworth’s Tony-Award-winning play, “The Ferryman.” This will be the play’s first production in the United States after Broadway and will run through March 5, 2023.
