The Goonies Turn 40 and USS Midway Is Throwing the Party

The USS Midway Museum knows how to lean into a theme, and this year’s Haunted Hangar Halloween Bash is going all-in on The Goonies.

With the movie hitting its 40th anniversary, the museum is transforming the hangar deck into a treasure-hunting adventure complete with everything you’d expect from a Goonies celebration – and a few surprises that make sense only when you’re throwing a party on an aircraft carrier.

What You’re Walking Into

This isn’t a screening with some decorations thrown up. We’re talking about a Truffle Shuffle Dance-Off, which is either going to be hilarious or mildly uncomfortable depending on how committed people get.

There’s a live DJ, iconic movie clips playing on the big screen, and Treasure Hunt Trick-or-Treating that lets kids (and let’s be honest, adults) wander the hangar deck looking for hidden goodies.

Pub Trivia will test how well you actually remember the movie versus how well you think you remember it. And there’s a costume contest with real prize money – $300 and $500 – so if you’ve been perfecting your Sloth or Chunk costume for years, this is your moment.

The Midway Makes It Better

Throwing a Halloween party on a decommissioned aircraft carrier already gives the event some built-in atmosphere. The hangar deck is massive, so there’s room to move around without feeling packed in. And the combination of pirate-themed fun (One-Eyed Willy would approve) with the naval setting creates an interesting overlap that somehow works.

Kids 3 and under get in free, and general admission is $20. If you’re a Midway Circle Level Member, you get 20% off, bringing it down to $16.
