La Jolla’s Biggest Car Event Turns 20
The La Jolla Concours d’Elegance is hitting a milestone. After two decades of bringing rare and stunning automobiles to the coast, the 20th annual event returns to Ellen Browning Scripps Park with a theme that speaks to anyone who’s ever felt that rush of pure speed: Icons of Speed: Historically Significant Super Cars.
This isn’t just another car show. It’s three days of automotive excellence set against one of the most beautiful backdrops in Southern California, featuring machines that didn’t just go fast – they changed what fast meant entirely.

From Mormon Meteor to McLaren F1: The Cars That Defined Speed
The featured class this year spans from 1935 to 1996, covering everything from early land-speed record holders to the groundbreaking McLaren F1. We’re talking about the cars that pushed boundaries, broke records, and made engineers rethink what was possible.
The event will showcase 16 classes total, including Pre-War American and European vehicles, American Muscle, Ferrari’s Prancing Horse collection, and even Japanese icons from the Rising Sun JDM class.
Expect to see over 200 rare and vintage automobiles from the 20th century, each evaluated by renowned judges on elegance, technical merit, and historical significance. Whether it’s a turbocharged production car from the ’60s or a Porsche Sonderwunsch, every vehicle on that field earned its place.

A Full Weekend of Events Beyond the Main Show
Friday night kicks things off with Motorvault, the VIP opening soirée. Think rare vintage automobiles, cocktails from expert mixologists, culinary offerings from top local restaurants, and live entertainment with an auction.
It’s an immersive evening where collectors and enthusiasts can mix among some seriously special machines.
Saturday morning brings the Tour d’Elegance for the true car lovers. The intimate experience includes exclusive visits to private collections, a scenic drive through San Diego, and a luxurious luncheon at a private venue.

Later that evening, Prospect Street transforms for Porsches & Power on Prospect, a free open-air showcase where legendary Porsches, exotic supercars, and cutting-edge hypercars take over La Jolla village. Live music, gallery receptions, and specialty dining menus round out the night.
Sunday is the main event. The Concours takes over Ellen Browning Scripps Park from morning until late afternoon, with competitors vying for Best of Show alongside live music and curated hospitality experiences.
Right next door, the La Jolla Motor Car Classic offers a free, community-focused celebration of automotive artistry for enthusiasts of all levels.
