Omni La Costa Celebrates 60 Years With a Legacy Weekend of Vintage Glamour

Omni La Costa Resort & Spa is marking its 60th anniversary with a Legacy Weekend celebration that honors its storied past as a playground for Hollywood’s elite.

Once a hideaway for Rat Pack icons like Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Bob Hope, the resort is bringing back the golden age of Southern California glamour with vintage-themed experiences.

The Historical Significance

Originally opened in 1965 as the nation’s first destination spa, Omni La Costa helped define wellness culture long before it became mainstream. This sun-drenched enclave established the template for luxury resort living in Southern California, making it a community mainstay and celebrity retreat for six decades.

The Legacy Weekend programming reflects different eras of the resort’s history, from the sophisticated ’60s through the vibrant ’80s, giving us a chance to experience the glamour that made this place legendary.

Weekend Highlights

Friday kicks off with Throwback TV Night on Valley Promenade, featuring classic ’60s television under the stars with retro snacks and elevated takes on TV dinners. It’s exactly the kind of nostalgic programming that makes you appreciate how entertainment has evolved.

Saturday offers multiple experiences, starting with the Splashback Retro Pool Party that captures the spirit of 1975–1985 with throwback tunes, retro vibes, and nostalgic bites by Chef Emily Brubaker. The family-friendly daytime event transitions into more sophisticated evening programming.

The Culinary Experience

The Yes, Chef! Table on Saturday night brings together Chef Emily Brubaker and several standout chefs from NBC’s Yes, Chef! for an intimate 4-course dinner with expertly paired wines. This 21+ event offers the chance to meet the culinary talent behind the weekend’s flavors while enjoying a curated culinary journey.

The Golden Era Casino Night rounds out Saturday with vintage cocktails, live music, retro bites, and a playful nod to the resort’s legendary after-dark scene. It’s designed to capture the sophisticated entertainment that made La Costa a destination for Hollywood’s elite.

The Golf Legacy

Sunday’s Persimmon Classic Golf Tournament pays tribute to La Costa’s iconic golf legacy with a throwback tournament featuring vintage-inspired rules and encouraging retro attire.

Open to members and guests only, the event includes custom refinished persimmon wood from Larsen Golf plus elevated cart snacks curated by the resort’s chefs.

Why This Celebration Matters

The Legacy Weekend represents more than just nostalgia—it’s a celebration of how Omni La Costa helped establish Southern California’s luxury resort culture. The resort’s evolution from the nation’s first destination spa to a community mainstay reflects broader changes in how we think about wellness, leisure, and hospitality.

By honoring its star-studded past while looking toward the future, the resort acknowledges its role in defining what luxury hospitality looks like in Southern California.
