Cyclists To Light Up Balboa Park At Holiday Themed Ride

Bring your bikes, your tinsel, and your ugliest Holiday sweater for the 11th Annual Holiday Joy Ride!

Hosted by the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition and sponsored by Lyft, riders of all ages are welcome to ride through Balboa Park, or just come to witness dozens of sweater- and light-donning cyclists and bicycles decked out in decorations, including ornaments and lights, rolling through Balboa Park.

Celebrating safe and accessible cycling throughout San Diego

Each year, the Joy Ride is a chance to celebrate both cycling and the tremendous progress made in 2021 to make biking more accessible and safer across San Diego County. Along with celebrating the joy of the holidays, the Joy Ride is also an opportunity for those joining in on the fun to learn, firsthand, how to safely ride through city streets, a necessary skill for cyclists of all skill levels. Group events hosted by the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition like Joy Ride additionally highlights how safe cycling infrastructure makes cycling more enjoyable and accessible.

Logistics

The ride will start and end at the Plaza de Panama Fountain, cyclists are invited to explore Balboa Park and Uptown by bike on a 4-mile route. Here’s the plan to get everyone rolling safely:

  • Wheel Light Installation at LightMeUp Safety Lights: 5 p.m.
  • Registration: 5:30 p.m.
  • Ride starts: 6:15 p.m.
  • Bike Gear Raffle Begins: 7:15 p.m.

Participants who join in will each receive a set of bike lights, courtesy of Lyft, and will have a chance to participate in a raffle for a chance to win prizes including riding jerseys, a New Belgium water bottle, a Fat Tire bike bag and more.

See you there, San Diego!
