While Madison on Park, University’s Heights’ beloved neighborhood bar and eatery, is typically closed on Mondays, the restaurant is making an exception to help love birds throughout San Diego celebrate Valentine’s Day. On Monday, February 14th, the restaurant will offer a special three-course Valentine’s Day menu from 4:30PM to 10:30PM, highlighting favorites from the menu, along with special offerings. The menu includes a choice of starters, entrees, and desserts, along with an amuse bouche, and costs $69 per person. Featured menu items include starters like Tuna Tartare and Madison’s iconic Watermelon Stack, and entrees like Local Seabass and Filet Mignon, along with vegan and vegetarian options, and an assortment of desserts. In addition to the pre-fixe menu, guests have the option of adding on a wine and cocktail pairing for $25, which allows guests to mix and match two drinks that pair best with their meal. Chef Sam Deckman has a very special Valentine’s menu planned for the sprawling Torrey Pines restaurant, Farmer & The Seahorse. On Saturday, February 12th and Monday, February 14th from 5:30-8:30PM, the restaurant will be showcasing a 3-course menu with such highlights as: Artichoke Hearts with vinaigrette, aji verde, Reggiano and chives, Filet Mignon with scalloped cauliflower and an option to add on a Maine Lobster Tail, Creamy Mushroom Pasta with shaved black truffle and Green Acre scallions, and Scallops with cauliflower purée and crispy sunchoke chips and desserts including Chocolate Torte with caramel and Fig & White Chocolate Pot de Crème. The menu is priced at $75 per person and reservations can be made through the website here with walk-ins welcome.
Bleu Bohème, located in Kensington at 4090 Adams Ave., will celebrate l’amour with a specialty three-course, prix fixe dinner and festive cocktail, available from 4 to 8PM exclusively on Monday, Feb. 14. Created by owner and executive chef, Ken Irvine, Bleu Bohème’s specialty menu will be priced at $85 per person. The Martini d’Amour will be offered for the celebration, made with Flor de Cana rum, Grand Mariner, Fonseca #27 port and fresh lime juice, and is priced at $15.
To start, guests may choose between wild mushroom soup with parmesan and fresh herb croustade; crab croquettes with jicama remoulade, tomato-rocket salad and saffron aioli; fresh-roasted beet salad with clementines, pickled red onions, goat cheese croquettes and rocket lettuce; house rum-cured, cold-smoked salmon tartare atop goat cheese crêpe with lemon zest, capers, chives, caviar and crème fraiche; or Brussels sprouts with butternut squash, house-smoked bacon and apple balsamic vinegar.
Entrée options include Faroe Island salmon with roasted Japanese potatoes, butternut squash, cauliflower and sorrel beurre blanc; large dry-pack sea scallops served with saffron lobster risotto, linguisa, rapini, fennel and basil pistou; petit filet mignon with roasted garlic mashed potatoes, spinach, green peppercorn sauce and black truffle butter; Shiitake and oyster mushroom raviolis with ratatouille, spinach, espelette, tomato relish, herbs and white wine cream sauce; or cassoulet of Hudson Valley Muscovy duck leg confit served with cannellini beans, garlic sausage, smoked pork belly and pistou.

No Valentine’s Day is complete without roses and chocolate, so Herb & Sea, Encinitas’ best brunch spot, is celebrating the holiday accordingly. Throughout the month of February, Herb & Sea will be offering three Valentine-themed flavors of their secret menu item, Unholy Donuts. Flavors include the Pistacho Rose with a strawberry rose water glaze and candied pistachio garnish, Chocolate Raspberry with a gooey chocolate filling and raspberry sugar, and Tiramisu highlighting a mascarpone cream filling, coffee run glaze and cocoa. These limited edition Unholy Donuts can be ordered during Herb & Sea’s Sunday brunch, from 10AM to 2PM, with reservations available via the website here.
University Heights’ new absinthe bar and bistronomie, Wormwood, will open at 5PM on Monday, February 14 to offer an exclusive, six-course prix fixe dinner experience in its Parisian-style dining room and outdoor garden patio. Priced at $100 per person, the night’s special menu will include Bahia Falsa oysters with champagne and caviar; Baja striped bass crudo in passionfruit chileatole with pickled cucumber and crispy brisket; beets with duck liver mousse, blood orange and endive; local Petrale sole meunière with artichoke hearts and purslane; aged Liberty Farms duck breast and mushroom-stuffed quail with confit chile relleno and pomegranate; and for dessert, an absinthe flambéd Baked Alaska comprised of chocolate chaud cake, red pistachio bombe, raspberry sorbet and maraschino cherries.
Wine pairings selected especially for this prix fixe menu will be available for an additional charge, or guests can order from Wormwood’s menu of classic and crafty cocktails – including the pink-hued Le Volcan made with absinthe and tequila blanco and featuring pomegranate, watermelon and pink peppercorn lava salt. Weekend guests are also in luck! Wormwood’s prix fixe Valentine’s menu is also available the preceding Saturday and Sunday alongside a limited version of the restaurant’s nightly dinner menu.
