Donations of gently used bicycles will be accepted at five San Diego County Trek Bicycle store locations on Jan. 8 from 10AM to 3PM. There, dozens of volunteers will collect the donated bikes and transport them to Free Bikes 4 Kidz headquarters to be repaired and redistributed. Once ready, bicycles will be donated to youth from across San Diego with the help of partner organizations including Outdoor Outreach and the Kiwanis Club of Southeastern San Diego.

Keeping kids healthy safely
Millions of children, especially those from low-income or communities of color, across the country lack safe opportunities to exercise outdoors in their own neighborhoods. A lack of physical activity is associated with a higher risk of developing either Type 2 diabetes or childhood obesity, both of which are associated with lacking physical activity. Additionally, nearly 15 million bicycles are discarded by their owners every year and children outgrow their cycles as they age, leading to millions of cycles littering landfills.
Free Bikes 4 Kidz aims to address both issues by repairing and restoring unwanted bikes and giving them to local youth, affording them the joy and freedom of two wheels. Bikes will be accepted at the following Trek locations between 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Jan. 8:
North County
1617 Capalina Rd, Unit B, San Marcos CA 92069
Solana Beach
124 N Rios Ave, Solana Beach, CA 92075
Kearny Mesa
4240 Kearny Mesa Rd, Suite 108, San Diego, CA 92111
La Mesa
