Oceanside’s Getting a Rad New Mural, and We’re Stoked!

MainStreet Oceanside is set to unveil an eye-catching new mural at the Oceanside Transit Center Parking Structure, and it’s bound to turn heads. This vibrant addition to our cityscape comes courtesy of San Diego artist Jonny Pucci and the Art that Excites program.

A Colorful Welcome to Our Coastal Town

Soon, visitors arriving by train or car will be greeted by a stunning three-story mural that captures the essence of Oceanside. Jonny Pucci, known for his murals across San Diego and even in Italy, is bringing his artistic flair to North County for the first time.

Three Panels, One Oceanside Story

Pucci’s design, chosen by public vote, is a triptych that celebrates different aspects of our community:

  • Spanish-Inspired Heritage
The first panel features a pattern reminiscent of Spanish tiles, blending influences from the original Santa Fe Depot in downtown San Diego and Oceanside’s 1946 train station. It’s a visual nod to our architectural roots.
  • Honoring Our Maritime History
Moving up the exterior staircase, a school of tuna guides the eye, paying homage to Oceanside’s harbor and rich fishing tradition. The dynamic design creates a sense of movement across the facade.
  • Capturing the Pacific’s Energy
The mural culminates with a massive 30-foot wave facing the ocean. With flowing strokes, it embodies the excitement and power of the nearby Pacific, a constant source of inspiration for our community.

Watch the Art Unfold

The mural installation begins on October 14 and will be completed by October 31, 2024. You’ll find this new landmark at 301 Seagaze Drive, right in the heart of Oceanside.

This project is a collaborative effort between the Oceanside California Cultural District, MainStreet Oceanside, and the City of Oceanside Arts Commission, all working together to enhance our city’s vibrant culture.

See You There!

When it’s finished on October 31, 2024, the new Oceanside Transit Center mural will be more than just a beautiful addition to our cityscape—it’ll be a celebration of Oceanside’s history, natural beauty, and community spirit.
