Japonesia Comes to MCASD’s Winter MKT with Records, Art, and Local Vibes
MCASD’s Winter MKT is back, and this year’s lineup brings together some serious local favorites. The museum is teaming up with Part Time Lover, In Sheep’s Clothing, and We Share Records to host Japonesia – their beloved pop-up celebrating Japanese music, food, and culture. Plus, it’s happening on Free Second Sunday, so admission to the museum is on the house.
A market with personality
Winter MKT isn’t your average holiday market. The vendor selection spans Southern California and the bi-national region, curated by collaborators who know their stuff.
Expect Japanese-themed records, food, drinks, and goods that reflect the kind of thoughtful curation these teams are known for. It’s a solid mix of gifting options and cultural celebration, all happening inside one of San Diego’s most iconic art spaces.
Perry Vasquez brings the palm trees
Local artist Perry Vasquez will be on-site for a book signing of his new publication, 25 Palm Trees in Paradise. The book features a decade’s worth of Vasquez’s “burning palm tree” paintings – works that explore the palm in all its moods and manifestations.
His art lives in collections at MCASD, The Cheech Center for Chicano Art and Culture, and around the San Diego/Tijuana region. If his take on one of California’s most iconic symbols sounds intriguing, this is a great chance to meet him and grab a signed copy.
More than just shopping
Beyond the vendors, Winter MKT packs in plenty of extras. Live vinyl DJ sets will run all day, featuring selectors from San Diego and LA. MCASD’s Education team will have family activities set up, and Sunsets & Brainwaves will be doing live screen printing.
The Shop at MCASD will also be open with their full selection of apparel, accessories, art books, and jewelry. MCASD Members can enter exclusive raffles for gift baskets filled with goodies from the museum and vendors.
