Destination Orfila Winery: North County San Diego’s Wine Country
Have you been to the Orfila Winery? Do you even know where it is?!
If you’re a local, you’ve probably driven past Orfila Winery while on the way to the Safari Park several times. Well next time, STOP and have a glass of wine! You will not be disappointed!
Orfila Winery, located in Escondido, is San Diego’s largest winery with over 36 acres of vineyards and 70 acres of property.
The land that Orfila Winery is on is considered to be a reserve and a part of the San Pascal Agricultural Preserve, which basically means the city of San Diego owns the land.
All grown and produced locally on property, there are three whites and seven reds to choose from. Guests can come and sample at any point, with a large tasting room.
My personal favorite is the sparkling white wine they have!
The winery and wine cellar have daily tours running throughout the property, where wine facts and tips about consuming wine are given!
The white wine is locked in these barrels for 8-10 months, while the red can be in for 2 years.
Another fun fact: Throughout the vineyard and property, there are owl boxes scattered around. These boxes encourage local owl friends to visit, while scaring away squirrels and gophers that eat the vineyards!
There are 15 of these boxes throughout the property. So if you have some bird-loving photographer friends, you’ll want to bring them along for your great day of wine in the sun, too!
Whether you go for the wine, scenery, photo ops, or just because, Orfila is the perfect outing and day trip from anywhere in the San Diego area. On the weekends there are various events and gourmet food trucks, so be sure to check out their events here!
Cheers! We’ll see you there!
