Spend Sunday Evening With Artist Daniel Ketelhut at Andaz San Diego

The best way to understand a piece of art is to ask the person who made it. Andaz San Diego is giving you three hours to do exactly that.

The hotel is hosting An Evening with the Artist in partnership with Sparks Gallery, with Daniel Ketelhut as the featured artist and his exhibition on display at the hotel right now. It is free, it is open to the public, and Ketelhut is staying for the whole evening.

Three Hours to Ask Your Own Questions

Ketelhut will be on hand the entire time to talk through his creative process and the thinking behind the work on the walls. There is no ticketed lecture and no scheduled program, just the artist, the exhibition, and whoever shows up.

That last part is the appeal. This is the kind of evening where you arrive alone and leave having talked to three strangers about the same piece.

An Evening with the Artist: Daniel Ketelhut

A Hotel That Books Local Artists on Purpose

The Sparks Gallery partnership is the tell here. Showing local artists is an ongoing part of what Andaz does, and this is the version where the public gets an invitation in rather than catching the work on the way through the lobby.

It also means you get real time with the exhibition while the person who made it is standing a few feet away. That combination is harder to come by than it sounds.

Free to Walk In, Small Bites if You Stay

Admission costs nothing, which is rare for an evening with this much access to an artist. Chef’s choice small bites and drinks are available for purchase if you want to stretch it into a longer night.

RSVP through Andaz San Diego’s Tock page so the hotel has a headcount. Then show up, take your time, and ask the question you would normally keep to yourself.

See you there!

Sunday evenings rarely come with an open invitation to talk art with the person who made it. Clear a couple of hours and go say hello.
