Welcome Cirque du Soleil Back to San Diego
The Big Top is back. After an eight-year wait, Cirque du Soleil returns to the Del Mar Fairgrounds with LUZIA, its first Big Top production in San Diego since 2019 and the first time this internationally acclaimed show has ever played here.
Since its world premiere in 2016, LUZIA has welcomed more than five million people around the world, and now San Diego finally gets its turn under the tent.

A Waking Dream Inspired by Mexico
LUZIA drops you into an imaginary Mexico suspended somewhere between dreams and reality, inspired by the people, places, sights, and sounds of the country.
Written and directed by Daniele Finzi Pasca, the show glides from an old movie set to the ocean, a smoky dance hall, and an arid desert, with live music tying every surreal landscape together.
Even the name tells the story: “luz” is Spanish for light and “lluvia” means rain, the two elements at the heart of the production.

Acrobatics Meet Real Rain
Here’s where LUZIA gets truly wild: it’s the first Cirque du Soleil touring production to weave rain directly into live acrobatics.
Cyr Wheel artists roll and spin through pouring rain, an aerialist flies above a cascading shower, and hoop divers launch themselves between giant moving treadmills.
A contortionist, an aerial straps artist, a juggler, and football freestylers round out the cast, pushing familiar circus disciplines into unexpected territory.

What the Critics Are Saying
The reviews have been glowing. The New York Times called it “Cirque du Soleil at its peak,” and critics from the Bay Area to London have praised its dazzling spectacle and celebration of human skill.
Returning with LUZIA, a show never before seen in San Diego, is “an incredible way to welcome audiences back under the Big Top,” said Rainier Koeners, Vice President – Commercial, Americas.
