Celebrate December At The Conrad With Jazz, Piano, Holiday Open House…And Giant Bubbles!
It’s time to have some holiday fun this December at The Conrad, with La Jolla Music Society (LJMS) offering brilliant performances and entertainment for all ages as well as our annual Holiday Open House.
The Magic of Bubbles
On Saturday, December 2, 2023, it’s all about the BUBBLES when Italian clown and actor MICHELE CAFAGGI comes to town with his show “The Magic of Bubbles” as part of our ConRAD Kids Series.
Cafaggi studied acting, circus arts, mime, clowning, and theatrical improvisation in Milan and Paris and has performed in research theater and company theater. But he found his true calling when he became the first artist in Italy to develop a giant bubble technique to create an entire theatrical show dedicated to soap bubbles. Now it’s time for his giant bubbles to take over San Diego for two shows at The JAI, at 10AM & 11:30AM.
Seong-Jin Cho
With overwhelming talent and innate musicality, SEONG-JIN CHO is one of the consummate talents and most distinctive artists of his generation. Cho came to the world’s attention in 2015 when he won First Prize at the Chopin International Competition in Warsaw, and his career has rapidly ascended since. He returns to The Conrad in a solo recital as part of our Piano Series on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at 5PM in The Baker-Baum Concert Hall with a program that includes Haydn, Ravel, Mozart, and Liszt.
Holiday Open House
The Conrad’s annual popular free HOLIDAY OPEN HOUSE returns on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at 4PM! This festive, free event for the whole family transforms the Wu Tsai QRT.yrd into a Winter Wonderland. There will be cider and classic hot cocoa, storytime, crafts for kids, and holiday shopping with local artisans at a holiday market. Also featured will be live musical performances of holiday favorites from the San Diego Gay Men’s Chorus with a special guest appearance by Davina from Davina and the Vagabonds.
Davina and the Vagabonds
The incomparable Davina returns to The JAI for two fun holiday-themed shows like no other! DAVINA AND THE VAGABONDS have created a stir on the national music scene with their high-energy live shows, top musicianship, sharp-dressed professionalism, and Sowers’ commanding stage presence. You’ll have a blast singing along with Davina to your holiday favorites on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at 6PM & 8:30PM.
Matthew Whitaker
Phenomenal 22-year-old pianist MATTHEW WHITAKER has performed at venues including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and Lincoln Center, and jazz festivals all over the world. A “Child Star of Tomorrow” at the Apollo at age nine, he was invited just a year later to perform at Stevie Wonder’s induction into the Apollo Theater’s Hall of Fame. National and international radio and television appearances followed as well as extensive international touring. Now he shares his irrepressible musicianship with his quartet in his local debut, in the intimate space of The JAI on Sunday, December 10, 2023, at 5PM & 7:30PM.
