Hop Aboard for Easter at the San Diego Model Railroad Museum
Easter weekend is getting a charming, one-of-a-kind spin at Balboa Park’s San Diego Model Railroad Museum. The Easter Eggspress is a special before-hours event designed for families, blending springtime fun with the magic of model trains.

An Egg Quest Through the Layouts
The highlight of the morning is an interactive egg quest woven through the museum’s stunning model railroad displays. Kids hunt for hidden details tucked into the layouts, following the trail through miniature worlds while the trains roll along in the Toy Train Gallery.
It’s a scavenger hunt meets train show – and it’s as much fun for the grown-ups tagging along as it is for the little ones.

Storytime, Crafts, and a Hop With the Easter Bunny
Between the egg questing, there’s storytime to settle into and Easter crafts to get creative with. And of course, a chance to snap a photo with the Easter Bunny himself. Sweet surprises are also part of the deal – no spoilers on what those might be.

Early Access and All-Day Admission
One of the best parts? The Easter Eggspress includes early-morning access to the museum before it opens to the public, plus all-day admission so you can continue exploring the galleries at your own pace once the event wraps up.
For museum members, there’s a special ticket deal – one free admission with the purchase of a child admission ticket (ages 2 and up).
See you there!
The Easter Eggspress runs both Saturday and Sunday, so there are two chances to make it a family tradition this spring.
