Let There Be Light Benefit Concert Supports Student Volunteers

Bright Light Volunteers is throwing a benefit concert in Bankers Hill to raise money for scholarships that help students join international service-learning programs they couldn’t otherwise afford.

It’s happening on a Sunday afternoon with live music, food, drinks, and some pretty compelling stories from people who’ve been through these programs themselves.

What the Scholarships Do

The Grow Peace Scholarship Fund sends students on service-learning trips to places like Cuba and Greece, where they work with local communities and get the kind of perspective you just can’t get sitting in a classroom. For students who can’t swing the cost on their own, these scholarships make it possible.

The concert is raising funds to keep more students going, which feels like a genuinely worthwhile cause.

Music, Food, and Real Stories

The afternoon features live music from an ensemble of the Sabrosas Latin Orchestra, which is always a good time. There will also be small bites and drinks, plus testimonies from people who’ve done the programs and can speak to how those experiences shaped their lives and outlook.

It’s the kind of storytelling that makes you understand why this matters beyond just the abstract idea of “doing good.”

Why It’s Worth Going

International service-learning isn’t just about volunteer hours. It’s about building real connections across cultures, challenging what you think you know, and figuring out how to contribute in ways that actually help.

The scholarship fund makes sure students from all financial backgrounds can access these trips, which is exactly the kind of thing we should be supporting more of.

A Sunday Well Spent

If you’re looking for something to do on a Sunday afternoon that feels meaningful without being too serious, this checks the boxes. Good music, good cause, and you’ll probably meet some interesting people. Plus, Bankers Hill is a great neighborhood to hang around in if you want to grab dinner or a drink after.

See you there!

Live music, community vibes, and scholarships that genuinely change lives – not a bad way to spend a Sunday.
