Necessity Coffee Celebrates Grand Opening in North City San Marcos

San Marcos is getting a new go-to coffee stop. Necessity Coffee is opening its newest location in North City, and they’re celebrating with a full morning of music, giveaways, and freshly crafted drinks.

Known for its thoughtful espresso program and strong community vibe, Necessity has built a following around San Diego for doing the classics well while keeping things creative.

Free Drinks and a Live DJ

The grand opening celebration will feature a live DJ spinning throughout the morning, setting the tone for a laid-back but lively start to the day. The first 50 guests in line will receive a free drink, courtesy of North City, making it well worth showing up early.

Founder Jon Runion shared that the goal has always been simple – serve outstanding coffee and tea beverages while creating a space where people genuinely feel welcome. That neighborhood-first mindset is part of what’s helped Necessity stand out as it expands across San Diego.

A Rotating Menu With Everyday Staples

Necessity Coffee’s drink program is designed to evolve, with rotating specialty offerings that keep things interesting. At the same time, they’ve made sure to keep the essentials dialed in.

Expect drip coffee, pour overs, vanilla lattes, flat whites, matcha, and chai, along with seasonal drinks that reflect what the team is excited about at the moment. Loose leaf teas and assorted pastries round out the menu, making it just as easy to pop in for a quick morning stop as it is to linger and catch up with friends.

North City developer Darren Levitt noted that Necessity represents the kind of homegrown, artisanal concept they’re working to cultivate throughout the district – locally driven and rooted in experience.
