Sip & Savor at Temecula Valley Barrel Tasting Weekend
Temecula Valley’s Barrel Tasting Weekend is back, and if you’ve never gone, this is the one time of year you can taste wines directly from the barrel before they’re released.
Over 30 wineries open their cellars, giving you access to unreleased vintages you won’t find anywhere else. It’s a passport-style event, so you set your own pace through wine country without feeling rushed or stuck on a tour schedule.

What Makes Barrel Tasting Different
Most wine tastings serve you finished bottles in a tasting room. Barrel Tasting flips that – you’re sampling wines that are still aging, giving you a preview of what’s coming and a behind-the-scenes look at how winemakers are thinking about their upcoming releases.
Each winery provides a gourmet food pairing designed specifically to complement their barrel sample, so you’re not just tasting wine, you’re getting the full culinary experience.
Self-Guided Through Rolling Hills
You can hit as many or as few wineries as you want. Some people map out a route and hit their favorites, others just wander and see where they end up. Either way works.
The passport-style format means you’re in control of your own day, which is way better than being stuck on a bus schedule or rushed through tastings you’re not into.
Tickets and Transportation
Single-day winery passes are $89, and designated driver tickets are $49 if you’re bringing someone who’s not drinking. If you’d rather not worry about driving at all, Grapeline Wine Tours is offering an all-inclusive shuttle package for $169, which honestly makes sense if you’re planning to really take advantage of the tastings.
Tickets are on sale now, and given how popular this event is, grabbing them early is probably smart.
Worth the Drive
Temecula’s about an hour and a half from San Diego, so it’s an easy day trip or weekend getaway. The rolling hills, the weather in late January and early February, and the fact that you’re getting access to wines before anyone else make it one of the better wine experiences in Southern California.
Plus, you’re supporting local wineries and getting to taste stuff that won’t be available in stores for months.
