Uptown Rhythm Makers Bring New Orleans Jazz to Panama 66

If you’re looking for a reason to head to Balboa Park on a Thursday evening, the Uptown Rhythm Makers are playing Panama 66 and it’s exactly the kind of live music night that reminds you why San Diego’s music scene is worth paying attention to.

The band has been infusing authentic New Orleans style traditional jazz and swing into the San Diego music scene since 2003, and in their 23rd year they’re still one of the most authentic traditional New Orleans-style jazz bands in Southern California.

Uptown Rhythm Makers at Panama 66

Hot Jazz and Swing from the 1920s and 1930s

The Uptown Rhythm Makers have built their reputation on a repertoire of classic jazz and swing favorites, especially the hot jazz dance music of the 1920s and 1930s that has made them an absolute favorite of San Diego’s swing dance community.

Whether you’re a seasoned swing dancer or just someone who appreciates live music with genuine roots, this is the kind of performance that pulls you in.

The six-piece band features Bruce Vermazen on cornet and vocals, Bob Andersen on trombone, Gerard Nolan on clarinet and vocals, Armand Frigon on guitar, Jason Durbin on guitar, and Jeremy Eikam on string bass.

Free Parking and Easy Access

Getting there is straightforward. Free parking is available in the lower Inspiration Point lot at Presidents Way and Park Blvd, and you can walk or take the free shuttle from there to Panama 66.

It’s one of those outdoor venues in Balboa Park that always delivers a great atmosphere, especially on a warm evening with live jazz setting the tone.

See you there!

Twenty-three years in and the Uptown Rhythm Makers are still bringing the kind of authentic jazz energy that makes you want to get up and dance.
