City Tacos has been a San Diego staple since 2014. What Gerry Torres is building next makes it look like a warm-up. El Punto at Liberty Station is a full-service Mexican restaurant with an off-leash dog park, life-size lawn games, a Michelada bar, locally caught seafood, and the five best tacos from the City Tacos menu. All of it, in one place, for everyone you know.

El Punto

Tiraditos, Michelada Oysters, and the City Tacos Greatest Hits

Executive Chef Eduardo Baeza’s menu is the reason to make this a weekly habit. Locally caught seafood takes center stage – ceviche, oysters with a Michelada twist, and tiraditos (Mexican-style carpaccio and sashimi, in case you haven’t had the pleasure yet).

There’s also a full lineup of entrées and shareables, a kids menu, and brunch. Bar Director Rudy Corona handles the cocktail program. And the top five tacos from City Tacos made the menu. Obviously.

An Off-Leash Dog Park and Life-Size Games for the Kids

The 8,800-square-foot space is designed for everyone in your crew – including the four-legged ones. Covered outdoor seating, an indoor dining room, a kids section with life-size games (same as the City Tacos Ocean Beach setup, which is a very good thing), and an enclosed dog park where your dog can actually run loose while you work through the ceviche.

It’s the rare restaurant that thought of everything.

Three Ways to Order, One Michelada Bar

Full-service wait staff for a proper sit-down, QR codes at the patio tables if you’d rather go at your own pace, or a walk-up counter when you need to keep it moving. A Michelada bar station and container bar keep drinks within reach no matter which mode you’re in. Options are good.

Two Mexico City Natives, 25 Years in the Kitchen

Torres and Baeza go back over 25 years to Candelas, a Downtown San Diego restaurant where Torres waited tables and Baeza ran the kitchen.

That partnership has carried through every Torres restaurant since – Fonda del Barrio in Barrio Logan, Tour de Tapas in La Mesa, all six City Tacos locations. El Punto is what that history looks like when it finally gets a canvas big enough to show off.

See you there!

El Punto is the kind of restaurant you bring everyone to at least once, then start treating like a regular. Go find your spot.
