The Green Dragon Tavern and Museum in Carlsbad is just the spot for any transplants from New England that are craving a taste of home, or for the history buff that wants to brush up on America’s history while enjoying a great meal!

“The British are Coming!”

The Green Dragon is the exquisite recreation of the eponymous former East Coast locale where American revolutionaries including Benjamin Franklin, John Hancock and Samuel Adams met to plot their strategy for securing American independence from Britain.

It’s where Revere famously rushed outside to alert his comrades that “the British are coming”.

Founded on history

The property’s free museum is a walk back in time for guests of all ages, boasting the property owner’s own stunning private collection of historical documents — and an education in pivotal moments in American history.

The founder of The Green Dragon started out as an inner city math teacher, then became a CPA and started his own business. He developed a passion for collecting documents from the signers of the Declaration of Independence and Constitution.

Always grateful for the opportunities afforded to him in this country, he‘s invested in sharing our nation’s history, especially with children.

The Green Dragon Museum

The Green Dragon Tavern & Museum is one of Carlsbad’s most unique and iconic venues. Everything, from the tall white doors of the brick-built building to the hardwood floors, will give anyone with a New England history warm and fuzzy feelings of home – you’re not in Southern California anymore!.

With many different rooms to choose from, guests love to explore the free-admission museum, where visitors gain an understanding of our country’s early architecture, historical artifacts, and culture.

The more secluded spaces with classic East Coast elegance make the museum a perfect venue for private events of all sizes.

New England Fare

Don’t pass on the food when you visit – the restaurant at the Green Dragon Inn is a fantastic surprise in both quality and value! Come hungry, the portions are large and hearty.

Notable menu items that are a must-try include the famous barrel-aged old fashioned, several lobster roll variations, the chicken pot pie, and the steak tips. And don’t miss the carrot cake!

Families should bring their kids and take the opportunity to transform a dinner out into a fun educational event – the kids will love to explore the museum!

Be a part of history

Green Dragon received the only historical marker from the Daughters of the American Revolution in the state, and is raising funds for the interactive component of the free museum.

You can be a part of history by purchasing a brick or making a donation to the museum to contribute to a planned high-tech, interactive experience.
