Your Guide To This Week’s San Diego Concerts

This is your week for DJs and rebirths. A singer-songwriter goes from folk/country to straight rock, a pop-punk band disbands and is reborn as space rock, and both bring their new iterations to your eardrums. As for the DJs, you’ll get your fair share of shows around town along with a festival to keep you occupied!

The Bad Vibes – 3/3

Soda Bar

City Heights

The Bad Vibes describe themselves as “21st-century Psychedelic Swamp Rock to scalp to.” Heavy metal riffs, gruff vocals and a Cajun flavor make this an apt description of the band.

If you like the sound of a heavier metal-laden CCR, then The Bad Vibes might be for you.

Datsik – 3/3

House of Blues

Downtown San Diego

Canadian producer/DJ Datsik performs Dubstep, Electro, Drum and Bass and Hip-hop. Boasting a list of #1 Beatport releases, Datsik has also collaborated on Korn’s The Path of Totality album. You’ll also hear Snoop Dogg featured on his song “Smoke Bomb.”

Catch Datsik’s Ninja Nation tour and you’ll find yourself saying, “That is sick.”

Lane 8 – 3/3

Music Box

Little Italy

For Daniel Goldstein, better known as his stage name Lang 8, “going to a club has always been about letting go of the world around” him. That’s why his shows are sans phones and cameras. That’s right—technology is checked at the door.

His This Never Happened label concept follows this theme: the experience is yours and yours alone. At a Lane 8 concert, you’ll turn off, tune in and drop out.

CRSSD Fest – 3/4

Waterfront Park

Downtown San Diego

The CRSSD Fest hosted by FNGRS CRSSD features three stages of DJs for your enjoyment: Oceanview, The Palms and Citysteps.

From well-established acts to underground up-and-comers, the line-up at CRSSD Fest is something to behold.

Sleeptalk – 3/4

Soma

Midway District

In 2013, after the disbandment of pop-punk Like Giants, vocalist Anthony Fitzpatrick and bassist Paul McGill longed to stretch their musical vocabulary beyond the limits of pop-punk.

Cue the creation of Sleeptalk, a “space rock” outfit that focuses more on haunting soundscapes than power chords. Check out Sleeptalk at Soma while they’re in SD.

Laura Stevenson – 3/4

The Casbah

Little Italy

American singer-songwriter Laura Stevenson has toured with acts such as Against Me!, The Go-Go’s, Kevin Devine, Tim Kasher of Cursive and The Gaslight Anthem and hits the touring scene once more to promote her 4th studio album Cocksure.

And Cocksure is just that—a straightforward rock album with undeniable certainty.
