Erin McKeown – Brick 15 (Del Mar) – 11/10

McKeown’s music traverses boundaries, whether it be traditional music stylings or international lines. With her social justice-centric lyrics, she’s a regular presence on both NPR and BBC.

Her first original musical premiered at the La Jolla Playhouse and was co-written with Tony & Pulitzer winner Quiara Alegria Hudes.

You can find her tunes in television as well, making her a true multimedia artist.

The Schizophonics – The Pour House (Oceanside) – 11/11

The Schizophronics know how to get San Diego’s blood moving—they’re from here, after all.

With influences such as the Sonics, Jimi Hendrix and MC5, it’s no wonder their exuberant rock sounds straight out of the psychedelic ‘60s.

An intimate venue like the Pour House puts you front and center for the Schizophrenics’ explosive antics.

Common Sense – The Belly Up (Solana Beach) – 11/11

Orange County band Common Sense brings their reggae-rock sensibilities a little farther south on Saturday.

Reminiscent of Sublime at their best, Common Sense pairs melodic vocals with ska-style guitar.

Your week wasn’t as irie as you would have liked? Let Common Sense turn it around with their upbeat tunes.

Jo Hell Band – Mr. Peabody’s Bar and Grill (Encinitas) – 11/12

If you like dirty blues and gritty rock ‘n roll, then the Jo Hell Band is for you.

Fronted by Jo Hell himself, the band plays original tracks and throws in covers from classic acts such as Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimi Hendrix and B.B. King.

But you won’t catch him covering the same old hits—he favors B-sides and rarities.

Young Dubliners – The Belly Up (Solana Beach) – 11/13

Are you a fan of bands like Flogging Molly and the Dropkick Murphys? Without the Young Dubliners, Celtic rock wouldn’t be what it is today.

Come see what traditional Irish folk instruments can do in the hands of rockers at the Belly Up!
