San Diego Brews Gold at the Beer World’s Oscars

Our local brewmasters just showed the nation why we’re called The Capital of Craft™. At the 2024 Great American Beer Festival (GABF) in Denver, five winners from our homegrown breweries clinched gold medals, proving once again that San Diego’s beer scene is nothing short of world-class.

Cheers to the Champs

Let’s give a frothy round of applause to our golden beer heroes:

Craft Coast Beer & Tacos (San Marcos) – Chillzner
Culture Brewing Co (Solana Beach) – 3 Citrus Gose
Green Cheek Beer Co (Oceanside) – Jeff’s Baltic Porter
Pizza Port (Imperial Beach) – Indie Roo
Puesto Cerveceria (Mission Valley) – Puesto Negra

These brews aren’t just good—they’re officially “world-class” according to GABF standards. And get this: it’s the second year in a row we’ve had five different breweries strike gold. Talk about consistency!

More Medals in the Mix

San Diego breweries snagged a total of 12 medals, including four silvers and three bronzes. Pizza Port and Athletic Brewing Co. even pulled off multiple wins. Now that’s what we call overachieving!

Why it Matters

“America’s Finest City had yet another fine performance in the Rockies this year,” says San Diego Brewers Guild Executive Director Erik Fowler. He’s not wrong—with over 9,000 entries judged by 285 certified beer experts, winning at GABF is like taking home an Oscar for your brew.

Fowler adds, “We hope San Diegans will go out and try these great beers, along with great food in many cases at these breweries and brewpubs.” We couldn’t agree more!

Raise a Glass to San Diego’s Finest!

Congratulations to all our medal-winning breweries at the Great American Beer Festival! Your craftsmanship and innovation continue to put San Diego on the map as a world-class beer destination. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, there’s never been a better time to explore our city’s incredible brewing scene.

Ready to taste some award-winning suds? Head to these local breweries and brewpubs to sample the best of the best. And don’t forget to mark your calendars for the 16th Annual San Diego Beer Week, coming up November 1 to 10. It’s the perfect chance to celebrate our city’s hoppy triumphs!
