The Chain Gang of 1974

The Chain Gang of 1974 apart from having the coolest band name in the world have the coolest image, but probably the most dated sound. They have been a band for quite a short while but have amassed a huge following over the last couple of years touring all over the US and signing to Warner Music Group. One of the things that I find a little bit awkward with this band is that they are from San Jose in California but they definitely sing like they’re from the 80s in England, the singer looking as though he is the spawn of Phil Oakley from the Human League, delivering this song as though he is angry that he is in fact not Phil Oakley from Human League. I can sort of see the appeal of this band, with a few ironic things going on in a sound a like kind of way so maybe appealing more to a hipster sort of audience.
