Jingle All the Way to This Year’s Little Italy Tree Lighting and Christmas Village

Little Italy is transforming into a winter wonderland for its annual Tree Lighting and Christmas Village, and if you’re looking for a neighborhood holiday celebration that feels genuinely festive without being overly commercialized, this delivers.

We’re talking Christmas twinkle lights down all the streets, 10-foot tall nutcrackers, kinetic tree holiday displays on street corners, two Christmas trees, seasonal vendors, live music and entertainment, holiday treats, and Santa granting Christmas wishes.

Tree Lighting and Christmas Village

What Makes This Special

The neighborhood gets adorned with decorations that go beyond just stringing up some lights – we’re talking intentional design with those 10-foot nutcrackers and kinetic displays creating visual interest on street corners.

Christmas songs play throughout, and the whole atmosphere leans into the holiday spirit in a way that feels warm rather than forced.

There are two Christmas trees to experience: Joshua Hubert’s Aurora tree at Piazza Basilone and the permanent 25-foot tree at Piazza della Famiglia. The Tree Lighting Ceremony happens at Piazza della Famiglia, following a traditional Italian ceremony format that adds cultural significance beyond just flipping a switch.

Christmas Village on India Street

The Christmas Village runs along India Street between W. Cedar and W. Grape Streets, featuring one-of-a-kind stocking stuffers, holiday gift and artisan vendors, and select Little Italy Mercato vendors.

This is where you can knock out some holiday shopping while supporting local makers and small businesses.

The vendor mix gives you variety – artisan goods, specialty items, and unique stocking stuffers. Combined with Little Italy’s existing restaurant and café scene, you can easily make an evening of it by eating dinner before or after wandering through the village.

Santa’s Back

This year marks Santa’s return to the event, which matters if you’ve got kids who want to share their Christmas wishes.

The family-friendly nature of the event means it works for multiple generations – grandparents, parents, kids – all finding something to enjoy without anyone feeling left out or bored.

A True Neighborhood Celebration

Little Italy knows how to throw community events, and this Tree Lighting and Christmas Village continues that tradition.

Family, friends, and neighbors coming together to experience holiday joy in an urban neighborhood setting creates something that feels authentic to San Diego.
