A fixture of San Diego’s bike community

Gordy Shields, who passed away in 2013 at the age of 95, had been a fixture of San Diego’s bike community for decades. The Fletcher Hills resident first began biking in his 50’s and was equally known for breaking numerous age-group records over the following decades as he was for his advocacy for safer biking conditions throughout San Diego County. Shields had worked tirelessly to improve the 24-mile Bayshore Bikeway through his advocacy, and this ride honors his legacy.

“Gordy Shields played an integral role in promoting biking in San Diego, and we’re proud to honor him with this ride,” said San Diego County Bike Coalition Executive Director, Andy Hanshaw. “His legacy is a lesson for all of us: no matter how old you are, biking is for everyone.”

“We are thrilled to partner with the San Diego Bike Coalition to support its month-long celebration of cycling,” said Joseph Dowling, Chief Executive Officer of CV Sciences. “On May 2, many of our employees will be participating in the self-guided Gordy Shields Memorial Bike Ride along the scenic Bayshore Bikeway and stationed at our pitstop, where our team will be sharing the benefits of PlusCBD, handing out samples, and interacting with our local community.”
