New Exhibition + More Things To Do At Oceanside Museum Of Art This Month

October is already in full swing and Oceanside Museum of Art (OMA) is kicking off the month with a brand-new exhibition, celebrating all things plein air and diving into the world of famous portraits throughout history.

Neil Kendricks

New Exhibition | Neil Kendricks: Temple of Story

October 9-February 20 | 704 Pier View Way

This exhibition is a multisensory experience inspired by the pandemic and the effect it has had on our communal psyche. Neil Kendricks: Temple of Story will run from October 9 through February 20. Dedicated in memory of his father, this unique exhibition is based on 10 short stories created over the last year and a half by artist and filmmaker Neil Kendricks, each with a distinctive surreal or magical realism feeling.

Viewers will take a stroll through a forest of fables with drawings on the walls to illuminate their path. This gallery will feature numerous drawings, white charcoal/chalk on black paper, inspired by the stories Kendricks created along with scannable QR codes bringing visitors to audio readings of the story behind each.

The gallery will also most notably feature a large projection of a video depicting drawings done with Procreate drawing software, which will evolve and morph over time. Additionally, Kendricks collaborated with composer and musician, Mike Mare, to incorporate Mare’s atmospheric music and sound design with Kendricks’ narratives, allowing visitors to discover an intimacy with an unseen storyteller.

Tickets are $10 for General Admission and Free for OMA members.
