Spreckles Organ Society Spreading The Holiday Spirit With Special Christmas Concerts

Spreckels Organ Society, a non-profit organization curating concerts and performances in the heart of Balboa Park, is kicking off the holiday season with three free holiday collaborative performances with world-class performers on December 5, 11, and 12.

The Spreckels Organ Pavilion, the largest open-air musical instrument in the world, brings a one-of-a-kind experience for guests in the beautiful backdrop of Balboa Park’s open-air venue.

Hosted by the Spreckels Organ Society, the La Jolla Symphony & Chorus (LJS&C) will celebrate its first performance before a live audience since February 2020, with Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3, the “Eroica.” The event will begin with a virtuoso organ performance, featuring San Diego Civic Organist, Raúl Prieto Ramírez, followed by the LJS&C performing Beethoven’s Symphony, No. 3, Op. 55, the “Eroica”, conducted by Steven Schick, LJS&C Molli & Arthur Wagner Music Director. The La Jolla Symphony & Chorus will be joined by students in the San Diego State University (SDSU) orchestras.

Already becoming a tradition in town, San Diego Civic Organist, Raúl Prieto Ramírez, will be joined once again by the San Diego Opera and San Diego Ballet for a Christmas Celebration Concert, featuring selections from Haendel’s Messiah, Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio and popular Christmas carols from all over the world. Come celebrate Christmas at the heart of Balboa Park!

San Diego Civic Organist Christmas Sing-along with guest artist Lauren Leigh Martin. Audiences are invited on-stage for an all-inclusive sing-along of favorite Christmas Carols lead by San Diego Rock Star Lauren Leigh Martin with the largest open-air musical instrument in the world commanded by San Diego Civic Organist Raúl Prieto Ramírez.

All concerts on the Spreckels Organ are free to the public in accordance with the 1915 Deed of Gift whereby the brothers John and Adolph Spreckels gave the organ and pavilion to the City of San Diego. For more information, visit here.
