Rooftop Cinema Club Lifts the Curtain on its Schedule Through Fourth of July Weekend
Rooftop Cinema Club Embarcadero lifts the curtain on its schedule through the Fourth of July Weekend with a cinematic showcase featuring nearly 200 films.
Asian-American Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Black Music Month, and Pride Month are among the themes set to be celebrated at San Diego’s iconic outdoor cinema atop the Manchester Grand Hyatt. The complete lineup through July 7 is available here.
Rooftop Cinema Club Films & Special Events Highlights
May is AAPI Heritage Month, and throughout the month, Rooftop Cinema Club will celebrate the many facets of Asian-Americans and Pacific Islanders in cinema, both in front of and behind the camera.
Count Moana, Everything Everywhere All At Once, and Crazy Rich Asians are among the groundbreaking films created by AAPI filmmakers and artists that you can watch at Rooftop Cinema Club in May.
In honor of June’s Black Music Month, RCC is also showcasing the power of Black music in movies.
While the schedule includes films like Poetic Justice and Brown Sugar, it also features a Purple Rain Movie Night & Silent Disco to celebrate the late pop musician, who would have turned 64 on June 7, and the iconic film that was released in theaters 40 years ago back in 1984.
June is also the month of Juneteenth (June 19th), and Rooftop Cinema Club has a trio of films (Love & Basketball, White Chicks, and The Blackening) queued up in recognition, highlighting Black filmmakers.
June’s Pride Month is a big deal in San Diego, and to celebrate, Rooftop Cinema Club will host unique special events and show a collection of films either made by or starring LGBTQIA+ artists, those that tell their stories and others that are beloved by the LGBTQIA+ community.
The Pride Month film lineup includes classics like The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Bohemian Rhapsody, while the special events include a fantastically fun Drag Me to the Movies: Movie and Drag Show on June 23.
Drag Me to the Movies will feature fun and games and a movie-themed lineup of drag performers sashaying down the runway at Rooftop Cinema Club.
As you peruse the Rooftop Cinema Club lineup, you’ll also discover films like Bridesmaids, The Wedding Planner, My Best Friend’s Wedding, and, of course, Wedding Crashers, among a series of films being screened in honor of Wedding Season.
Top 1994 and 1999 release titles to be screened include Forrest Gump, Pulp Fiction, Speed, The Sixth Sense and The Shawshank Redemption.
Throughout May, June, and early July, Rooftop Cinema Club will continue its popular special events series. Detailed descriptions of all the additional special events are below, but RCC is excited to introduce several new ones, including its Saturday Cereal Club, its Mimosa & Muffins Sundays, and a 4th of July BBQ and Party.
