Foundation for Women Warriors Hosts Free Screening of “Unsung Heroes”

San Diego nonprofit Foundation for Women Warriors is hosting a free virtual screening of Unsung Heroes: The Story of America’s Female Patriots, and if you’ve never stopped to think about how many women’s military contributions have been essentially erased from history, this documentary will change that.

Executive produced by Academy Award filmmaker Ron Howard, the two-hour film digs into the heroic sacrifices of women who served in the American military – stories that have been largely ignored despite their significance.

What the Documentary Covers

Every woman who has ever served in the U.S. military volunteered to do so, but their accomplishments have received minimal attention compared to their male counterparts.

Unsung Heroes uses rare photographs, archival materials, and personal memorabilia alongside on-camera interviews to tell stories dating back to the Revolutionary War.

It’s described as “all guts and no glory,” which feels accurate when you consider how many critical contributions have gone unrecognized.

Jodie M. Grenier, CEO of Foundation for Women Warriors, frames it well: “For far too long, women’s military service, their sacrifices, and accomplishments dating as far back as the Revolutionary War, have remained relatively untold.

We are eager to share the incredible stories of women service members who undoubtedly influenced the trajectory and speed of women’s rights at home and all over the world.”

The Organization Behind It

Foundation for Women Warriors is the only organization in California solely focused on serving women veterans and their families. Their mission centers on helping women veterans and their children transition to civilian life while enhancing their personal and economic well-being.

They address the growing needs of an increasing population of military women who are navigating that shift from service to civilian life, which comes with its own set of challenges.

The screening is free, which matters when you’re trying to reach the broadest possible audience. This isn’t just for veterans or military families – it’s for anyone who wants to understand a piece of American history that’s been consistently underrepresented.

See you there!

Register, mark your calendar, and spend two hours learning about stories that should have been part of the mainstream narrative all along.
