See Gorillaz Bring The Mountain Tour to Pechanga Arena

Gorillaz have not played a proper North American run since 2022. That streak ends this month, and Pechanga Arena San Diego is on the route.

The new album, The Mountain, is out now. Co-creators Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett are putting the virtual band back on physical stages, with Albarn fronting the Gorillaz live band alongside guest performers. Little Simz and Deltron 3030 open.

Four Years Since the Last North American Run

This is a 22-date arena run across the US and Canada, produced by Live Nation, plus a headline set at Shaky Knees. It opened in Orlando and finishes with a Halloween night show in Seattle. San Diego sits in the final stretch.

Before the tour started, the band played a pair of Los Angeles shows running The Mountain start to finish, and opened their House of Kong exhibition in the US. By the time they get to us, this show will be thoroughly broken in.

Del Rapped on “Clint Eastwood” in 2001

Deltron 3030 opens, which means Del the Funky Homosapien is in the building. His verse on “Clint Eastwood” is the first thing most people ever heard from Gorillaz, and here he is on the same bill 25 years later. That kind of booking does not happen by accident.

Little Simz shares the opening slot, and she has history with the band too. Show up for both of them. Doors open an hour before the headline set, and that hour is doing real work.

Damon Albarn, a Live Band, and Guests You Will Not See Coming

The whole trick of a Gorillaz show is that the cartoon and the humans share the same room. Albarn is out front, the live band fills in behind him, and guest performers turn up through the set. Jamie Hewlett’s world runs on the screens around all of it.

This one lands on a Sunday, which makes the timing friendlier than it sounds. Get there for the openers, leave a buffer for arena parking, and you are home at a reasonable hour.
