Honor and Celebrate at Downtown Chula Vista’s Annual Día de los Muertos Celebration

One of Southern California’s largest Día de los Muertos celebrations returns to Downtown Chula Vista for another evening of culture, remembrance, and community.

Free and open to all ages, the event fills Third Avenue and Memorial Park with marigold-lined displays, large-scale alebrijes, Catrina-inspired installations, and live entertainment in one of the South Bay’s best annual celebrations.

Honor a Loved One at the Community Ofrenda

At the heart of the celebration is the community ofrenda on Davidson Street – a shared altar where anyone can bring a photo of a loved one to pin and pay their respects.

The Ofrenda Competition and Catrín and Catrina Ensemble Contest add a festive, participatory layer to the evening, inviting the community to engage with the holiday’s traditions in a meaningful and creative way.

A Full Evening of Culture and Entertainment

Beyond the ofrenda, the celebration is packed with things to see and do.

Live music and dance performances fill the evening with energy, a classic car show adds a uniquely Chula Vista touch, and hands-on children’s crafts and themed photo opportunities make it a genuinely great outing for families.

Mercado by Las Jefas Market brings together local makers and artisan vendors, and food and beverage offerings from local restaurants give everyone a reason to stroll through the neighborhood and take it all in.

The Art That Sets the Scene

As you move through Downtown Chula Vista, marigold-lined displays, large-scale alebrijes, and traditional Catrina-inspired installations curated by local artists create a backdrop that captures the true spirit of the holiday.

It’s the kind of visual experience that makes the celebration feel like more than just an event – it feels like a proper cultural moment.
