Monarch School Project’s “Metamorphosis” Art Show Celebrates the Power of Arts
Creativity is transformative for mental health and wellbeing. At Monarch School Project, a leading nonprofit supporting youth and their families experiencing homelessness, it will be celebrated at their third annual fundraising event, Metamorphosis Art Exhibition at Monarch School’s Center for the Arts, The Chrysalis.
Monarch School Project operates Monarch School, the only public K-12 school in the U.S. offering academic and social growth, emotional support, and life skills in a comprehensive program designed to help unhoused youth and their families succeed.
Metamorphosis Art Exhibition 2024
The event celebrates and showcases artwork created by students, parents, and staff in collaboration with Monarch resident artists Carol Greenstein and Xareni Lizarraga and artists from Space4Art, a community arts center and creative incubator, including Bob Leathers, Brennan Hubbell, and Linda Litteral.
The Monarch Dance Team will perform, and you can bid on pieces from the gallery and a silent auction while enjoying food and drink.
“In just two years, The Chrysalis has become a space for our students, families, and the Barrio Logan community as a whole to express itself through art,” said Monarch School Project CEO Afira DeVries.
“For the unhoused youth and families that we serve, it’s a place that unlocks great talent and opportunity that’s often overlooked and not prioritized due to the weight of the everyday stressors that come with experiencing homelessness.”
Opened in 2022, The Chrysalis is Monarch School’s Center for the Arts, a 6,000-square-foot space with a theater, dance studio, gallery space, visual art classroom, and music maker space, which hosts its Youth Development programs as well as community events.
Funds raised from Metamorphosis will help continue to operate the center and its music, dance, theater, and arts programming.
“We invite the community to join us to support, learn and appreciate our artists, and enjoy our wonderful Barrio Logan venue, where we’ve connected with thousands community members, and we look forward to sharing the space with thousands more,” DeVries said.
