Racing Returns to Del Mar for Bing Crosby Season and Breeders’ Cup
Fall in San Diego means racing season is back at Del Mar, and this year it’s kicking off with something huge. The Bing Crosby Season returns for its 12th year, followed immediately by the Breeders’ Cup World Championships.
If you’ve never been to the track during Breeders’ Cup, this is your chance – it’s not coming back to the West Coast anytime soon.

Breeders’ Cup Is the Big Deal Here
This is legitimately the “Super Bowl” of horse racing. We’re talking the world’s best jockeys, trainers, and Thoroughbreds competing in the sport’s most prestigious international event. Del Mar has hosted this three times before, and each time it’s been a big deal.
This marks the fourth time, and since it’s not scheduled to return to the West Coast in the foreseeable future, this might be your only shot for a while. Tickets are still available if you move fast.
Weekly Promotions Worth Knowing About
Sundays become “Free & Fun” days for Diamond Club members – free admission, free program, free seat, plus 50% off Michelob Ultra, Brandt Beef hot dogs, and sodas. It’s a solid way to spend a Sunday without dropping a ton of money.
Fridays are Seniors’ Day (free admission for 62+ with valid ID) and Wine Down Fridays (half off select wine bottles at on-track restaurants). If you’re over 62 and enjoy wine, Fridays are clearly your day.
Saturdays have College Day – free admission with a valid student ID, plus Grandstand seating, a free program, $2 bet, and tipsheet. Every Saturday also features Paddock Pours with rotating drink specials at 17 Hands and ULTRA Paddock Club locations.

Taste of the Turf Club on Sundays
Chef Bryn McArthur is rolling out a fall-inspired menu in the Turf Club. We’re talking Herbed Shrimp & Grits, Chicken & Waffles, Pumpkin Cheesecake, and Chocolate Flan. Each $150 ticket includes a reserved Turf Club table (seats four), brunch, and bottomless Bloody Marys or mimosas.
There are also seasonal cocktails like the Sunday Spritz and Cranberry Cinnamon Mimosa. Dress code applies, so check that before you show up.
Why This Season Matters
Opening Day brings back everything you’d expect from Del Mar – cool coastal atmosphere, solid weather, and world-class racing. Diamond Club members get free general admission on Opening Day, which is a nice perk. But the real draw is Breeders’ Cup.
The energy, the competition, the stakes – it’s all elevated compared to a regular race day. This is the biggest racing event of the year happening right here.
