Summer Arts Fest Brings Three Months of Free Concerts to Liberty Station

Arts District Liberty Station has something special planned for summer evenings, and it’s exactly the kind of community celebration we love to see. Summer Arts Fest kicks off a three-month series of free outdoor concerts that transform the North Promenade into an open-air venue showcasing some of San Diego’s most compelling musical talent.

The Perfect Summer Setup

The timing couldn’t be better—second Saturdays from July through September, running when the afternoon light starts getting golden and the temperature becomes perfect for outdoor gatherings.

The North Promenade provides an ideal setting with plenty of space for families and friends to spread out with picnic blankets, chairs, and snacks while soaking up both the San Diego sun and incredible live music.

What makes this event particularly appealing is how it integrates with everything else Liberty Station offers. We can arrive early to explore the galleries, artist studios, and unique shops, then settle in for the evening’s performance. It’s the kind of multi-layered experience that makes for a perfect summer Saturday.

Stellar Musical Lineup

Each month brings a completely different musical experience, showcasing the diversity of San Diego’s music scene. Whitney Shay opens the series in July, bringing her powerhouse blues vocals and electric stage presence.

As a five-time San Diego Music Award winner whose latest album debuted at number one on the Billboard Blues Charts, she represents the caliber of talent this festival attracts.

August features Kogee Soul Reprise, led by Kori Gillis, whose background includes everything from Navy Band Southwest to influences spanning Motown, gospel, and jazz. Their recent project Silver Lining earned a San Diego Music Award nomination for Best R&B album, demonstrating the sophisticated artistry we can expect.

September closes the series with Bambú Sound Exchange, an analogue dance music collective that synthesizes global groove with deep house and electronica. Their improvisational approach and real-time response to audience energy promises the kind of spontaneous musical experience that makes live performance special.

Community and Creativity

Lisa Johnson, President and CEO of Arts District Liberty Station, captures what makes this event meaningful: it’s about highlighting local talent while celebrating creativity and keeping San Diego’s artistic spirit thriving.

The fact that it’s free and family-friendly removes barriers and creates genuine community connection around music and arts.

Concert For Your Cause produces the series, with Apt 4 Music serving as emcees—a nice touch that keeps the focus on music education and community building. California Bank of Commerce’s sponsorship helps make the whole thing possible without charging admission.

The Liberty Station Experience

Part of what makes Summer Arts Fest work so well is the setting itself. Arts District Liberty Station has established itself as one of San Diego’s premier cultural destinations, and these concerts add another layer to what’s already a rich arts ecosystem.

The combination of galleries, studios, dining, and now regular live music creates the kind of creative hub that benefits the entire community.
