Father Joe’s Villages Serves Annual Christmas Meal to Over 1,000 People in Need
Father Joe’s Villages is serving more than 1,000 holiday-themed lunches and distributing care packages, and if you’ve been looking for ways the San Diego community shows up for neighbors experiencing homelessness or food insecurity during the holidays, this is it.
The annual Christmas luncheon welcomes individuals and families to a traditional sit-down meal with smoked turkey, cranberry stuffing, and dessert in a festive atmosphere with live music and decorations.

What’s Being Provided
Beyond the meal, guests receive a care package with rain ponchos, t-shirts, hygiene products, socks, hats, a note of encouragement, and other items. These aren’t just symbolic gestures – rain ponchos and warm clothing matter when you’re living outside, and hygiene products are essential items that many of us take for granted.
Deacon Jim Vargas, President and CEO of Father Joe’s Villages, will lead a prayer service at the event’s opening.
Why This Matters
The holidays can be a time of celebration, but for neighbors who are isolated, it’s also a reminder of the lack of traditional support systems. Father Joe’s Villages and its partners provide support and hope to people experiencing homelessness during a season that can amplify feelings of isolation and lack.
Thousands of seniors, veterans, and families are struggling and on the cusp of falling into homelessness and food insecurity. When people no longer have financial stability or support with keeping the lights on and other services they need to keep themselves and their families well, they rely on nonprofits like Father Joe’s Villages more and more.
The Community Showing Up
Father Joe’s Villages staff and volunteers serving this meal represent the San Diego community showing up as a supportive presence rather than turning away from the reality of homelessness and food insecurity.
The sit-down meal format, festive atmosphere, and care packages treat guests with dignity rather than just providing the minimum.
