Birch Aquarium Throws a Climate Dance Party for Earth Month
If you’ve ever felt climate overwhelm creeping in, Birch Aquarium has a different idea. Instead of doom scrolling, they’re inviting us to hit the dance floor.
Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego and Birch Aquarium are teaming up for a Climate Dance Party that blends ocean science, climate solutions, music, and community into one seriously uplifting night.

Science Meets the Dance Floor
The celebration centers around Scripps alumna Ayana Elizabeth Johnson and the paperback launch of her New York Times bestselling book What If We Get It Right?: Visions of Climate Futures.
Johnson, a marine biologist and policy expert known for her work at the intersection of science and justice, is helping lead a movement focused on real, tangible climate solutions already taking root around the world.
Her message is simple and refreshing. Take climate change seriously without taking ourselves too seriously.
Here’s How the Night Unfolds
This isn’t your typical lecture-style event. It’s designed to be interactive, energizing, and community-driven.
Here’s what the night includes:
- A chance to meet Ayana Elizabeth Johnson and celebrate her book launch
- Connections with local climate organizations
- DJs for Climate Action spinning upbeat sets
- After-hours access to explore Birch Aquarium
- A free paperback copy of What If We Get It Right? for the first 300 people through the door
Food and drinks will be available for purchase at Blue Wave Bistro, so you can keep the energy up while you mingle.
A Different Kind of Climate Conversation
At its core, the Climate Dance Party reflects Birch Aquarium and Scripps Oceanography’s mission to connect understanding with action. By blending science, creativity, and community, the event creates space to imagine a better future while actually building momentum toward it.
It’s thoughtful, hopeful, and yes, a little sweaty in the best way.
See you there!
We’ll be dancing, connecting with climate-minded locals, and leaving inspired about what’s possible for our ocean planet.
