Camarada brings Charlie Brown Jingles & Jazz back to The Conrad for two performances, four years after the last run, with San Diego jazz guitarist Peter Sprague writing the arrangements and vocalist Allison Adams Tucker out front.
Peter Sprague Rearranges the Songs Everyone Knows by Heart
Sprague is the reason this lands differently than a straight run through the seasonal catalog. Linus and Lucy, Feliz Navidad, Sleigh Ride, and a handful of other holiday standards get reworked for a full jazz group.
The melodies stay exactly where your ear expects them. What changes is everything underneath. It works whether you have heard these songs a hundred times or you are handing them to a kid hearing them for the first time.
Seven Players, Two Flutes, and a Harmonica
Allison Adams Tucker takes the vocals and Sprague plays guitar. Beth Ross Buckley is on flute, and Tripp Sprague moves between flute, saxophone, and harmonica across the program.
Behind them: Mackenzie Leighton on double bass, Danny Green on piano, and Duncan Moore on drums. That is a working jazz rhythm section playing music most of us first heard on a television special.
Two Chances to Catch it, Four Years After the Last Run
Two performances, one in the evening and one in the afternoon. The matinee is the easy call with kids in tow, and the evening show is the one to build a full night out around.
