‘Art of Élan’ Presents ‘The Ecology of Sound’

This January, Art of Élan will partner with the San Diego Art Institute (SDAI) to present ‘The Ecology of Sound: a Collective Exploration of The Language of Things’

This will be an unforgettable evening of music, art and creative experimentation that showcases the wide variety of artistic talent in Southern California and Baja.

The concert is inspired by The Language of Things, an interactive sound and video installation by U.S./Mexico-based multimedia artist, Roberto Romero-Molina.

The evening explores the idea of communal art and creativity as a dynamic cycle of cultural exchange, not only connecting performers with composers, listeners with viewers, teachers with students, but also fostering conversation between citizens on both sides of the border.

For this special collaborative event, original compositions by students and alumni of Art of Élan’s Young Artists in Harmony apprenticeship program will be featured alongside the world-premiere of “Petal by Petal, Leaf by Leaf”, a new work by UCSD faculty member and internationally-acclaimed composer, Lei Liang.

There will be a pre-concert panel with the artist, performers, and composers, moderated by musicologist, Charissa Noble.

Following the concert, guests are encouraged to experience Romero-Molina’s installation, The Language of Things, as well as the other exhibitions on display in the gallery space.

What is Art of Élan?

I’m sure many of us are not real familiar with what Art of Élan is, but it’s a really fantastic part of the San Diego arts and culture scene that should be celebrated! Their mission is really cool: to bring classical music to the masses by making it more approachable and interesting to diverse audiences (Those are our words, not their’s. Click here to read their full mission statement).

We’re huge fans; San Diego must continue to support organizations like this that enhance the cultural richness of our community!

Art of Élan’s concert season includes programs at the San Diego Museum of Art, the San Diego Art Institute, the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCASD) and Bread and Salt in Barrio Logan.

Check them out, buy some tickets, and enjoy the show!

See you there!
