San Diego County Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast Returns to Mission Valley
Each year, one of San Diego’s most meaningful community gatherings brings together leaders, advocates, and allies to honor the legacy of Harvey Milk. The San Diego County Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast returns for its 18th year, continuing a tradition rooted in visibility, justice, and collective progress.
Held at the Town and Country Resort in Mission Valley, the annual breakfast gathers LGBTQ+ community members and supporters from across the region for a morning centered on leadership, recognition, and connection.

Honoring Leaders Who Move the Needle
This year’s program recognizes individuals making a significant impact in the ongoing fight for equality and justice.
- George M. Johnson will receive the Harvey Milk Leadership Award for their advocacy against censorship and their impact as the author of All Boys Aren’t Blue, one of the most challenged books in the U.S.
- Mary Salas will receive the Harvey Milk Lifetime Achievement Award for her decades of public service and steadfast allyship with the LGBTQ+ community.
- John Heilman will also receive the Harvey Milk Lifetime Achievement Award for his long-standing leadership and policy work advancing LGBTQ+ rights.
- Captain Katy Lynch will be honored with the Assistant Chief Phil Collum Activist Award for strengthening trust and collaboration between law enforcement and the LGBTQ+ community.

A Morning Rooted in Community
Founded by local community leaders and supported by an all-volunteer committee, the Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast has grown into one of the region’s most impactful annual events celebrating LGBTQ+ leadership and progress.
It’s a space to reflect on how far we’ve come, recognize the work still ahead, and celebrate the people pushing that work forward.
Individual tickets and sponsorship opportunities are available online, with proceeds supporting the continuation of this important community tradition.

See you there!
We’ll be there bright and early to celebrate changemakers, reconnect with the community, and honor a legacy that continues to inspire San Diego.
