Art Alive Returns to SDMA With a Centennial Soirée in Full Bloom

Spring in Balboa Park means one thing for many of us – Art Alive is back. And in 2026, The San Diego Museum of Art is elevating its signature floral fundraiser with a Centennial celebration inspired by the theatrical world of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec.

From immersive floral installations to black-tie soirées and late-night parties, Art Alive once again transforms the Museum into one of the most vibrant cultural experiences of the season.

Art Alive 2025

A Floral Celebration Inspired by Toulouse-Lautrec

This year’s Art Alive draws inspiration from the Museum’s renowned collection and the special Centennial exhibition, Cafés and Cabarets: The Spectacular Art of Toulouse-Lautrec, on view April 4 through September 20, 2026.

Throughout Art Alive weekend, nearly 100 regional floral designers will create arrangements interpreting works of art displayed across the Museum. You can wander through galleries filled with color and fragrance, seeing paintings and sculptures reimagined through florals.

The two-story rotunda installation will once again greet us with a large-scale statement piece designed to stop us in our tracks.

The Premiere Dinner setting will even feature select works rarely displayed, giving us an exclusive way to experience the collection.

A Weekend of Signature Events

Art Alive spans four days, with events designed for everyone from dedicated art patrons to families looking for a creative afternoon.

Festivities include:

  • Art Alive Petal Pop-Ups across San Diego in the weeks leading up to the event, with large-scale floral installations appearing at surprise locations around the city
  • Art Alive Preview Weekend at Andaz San Diego, where the Gaslamp hotel transforms into a living gallery featuring floral designs inspired by art and architecture
  • The elegant, black-tie Premiere Dinner, celebrating the glamour of Toulouse-Lautrec’s Paris
  • The members-only morning preview, offering early access to the floral exhibition
  • The full Art Alive Floral Exhibition, the centerpiece of the weekend
  • Bloom Bash, a 21+ after-hours celebration featuring cocktails, bites from more than 35 of San Diego’s top restaurants, and even a Ferris wheel on the plaza
  • The family-friendly Garden of Activities, bringing hands-on art-making to the sculpture garden

Whether we’re dressing up for Bloom Bash or exploring the galleries during the day, there’s a version of Art Alive that fits the mood.

Supporting Art and Community

Art Alive is the Museum’s signature annual fundraiser, providing vital year-round support for exhibitions, education, outreach, and public programs. In its Centennial year, the celebration feels especially meaningful.

As Roxana Velásquez, Maruja Baldwin Executive Director and CEO, shared, Art Alive is a highlight of the Museum’s calendar – and 2026 carries added significance as the institution celebrates 100 years while showcasing rarely displayed works from its Toulouse-Lautrec collection.

Timed tickets are required for the floral exhibition and are available now online and by phone. Admission is complimentary for Museum members. Bloom Bash and Premiere Dinner tickets are sold separately.
