Celebrating Its 15th Annual Event, Art San Diego Returns To The San Diego Convention Center
Redwood Art Group announces the return of Art San Diego, our regions longest running and most acclaimed art and design fair, to be held this year at the San Diego Convention Center. This event is more than just an art fair—it’s an art experience.
The dynamic programming provides an exciting experience for our attendees, offering opportunities to view and interact with works by preeminent international, national, and local artists, and enjoy exhibitions that showcase the thriving art and design landscape of San Diego and beyond. Featured programs include Art Labs, Spotlight Program, Discoveries Collection, [LOCAL TALENT] Program, and the San Diego Art Prize.
Highlighting [LOCAL TALENT] Program
Among the many highlights of this year’s fair, the [LOCAL TALENT] program offers a glimpse into the creative minds of San Diego-based contemporary fine artists.
[LOCAL TALENT] serves as a vital platform for emerging and established artists who call the Arts District Liberty Station home. These four selected artists will have the unique opportunity to exhibit their work at Art San Diego 2023 as well as collaborate with Art San Diego’s philanthropic Access to Art program alongside community partners Monarch School and Humble Design.
Here are the four artists selected for the 2023 [LOCAL TALENT] program:
Chakib Bouhdary – From Moroccan Tiles to Modern Masterpieces
Chakib Bouhdary’s artistic journey is a fusion of cultures and techniques. Drawing inspiration from the intricate Moroccan tile designs known as Zellige, Chakib marries ancient traditions with modern mediums like alcohol ink and resin. His creations breathe new life into these age-old patterns, creating colorful modern mixed media pieces that bring together the beauty of the past and the innovation of the present. Chakib’s story reflects the power of art to bridge cultures and eras, making him a cultural ambassador for San Diego. Chakib is the founder of Bouhdy Art Collective.
Ann Golumbuk – The Art of Finding Beauty in Grit
Ann Golumbuk’s artistic evolution defies convention. Hailing from Oklahoma, Ann embarked on a path that led her to college, a career, and a family. However, a transformative twist of fate unleashed her inner artist. Her contemporary abstract art is a bold amalgamation of materials, including metal, cardboard, and shredded canvas. Ann’s work teeters between elegance and edginess, exemplifying her journey from traditional expectations to the liberation of artistic expression. Ann is a founding artist at F1VE art.
Jann Nunn – Sculpting Stories That Resonate
Jann Nunn’s art has transcended borders and touched hearts worldwide. With her sculptural masterpieces displayed from London to Santa Rosa, she uses her work to tell poignant stories. Jann’s art is not merely about aesthetics; it is a reflection of personal, political, and spiritual narratives. Her art has become a place of solace and remembrance, with her Holocaust and Genocide memorial sculpture at Sonoma State University serving as a powerful testament to the resilience of the human spirit. Jann is the founder of Jann Nunn Studio.
Yan Yahel – Painting Joy, One Brushstroke at a Time
Yan Yahel’s art is a celebration of joy and playfulness. Born and raised in the vibrant city of Mexico City, Yan’s early exposure to art and color shaped her unique perspective. Her current series, “My Canvas is My Playground,” is an exploration of abstract whimsy. Yan uses a vibrant palette and layers of color to evoke emotions and hidden memories. Her work invites viewers to connect with the pieces on a personal level, tapping into the universal language of joy. Yan is a founding artist at F1VE art.
