Balboa Park Kicks Off Summer In The Park With Open Air Concert
Balboa Park kicks off Summer in the Park this Friday evening with a special SDYS open-air concert on the steps of the San Diego Museum of Art in the Plaza de Panama. The date coincides with the start of Food Truck Fridays and Park After Dark, where select museums and attractions are open late-night hours to keep the park hopping later into the warm summer nights.
SDYS’ Symphony Orchestra and Wind Orchestra will be performing excerpts and selections from Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4, Rimsky-Korsakov’s Procession of the Nobles, Shostakovich’s Galop, and more.
The schedule looks like this:
4pm: Food Trucks arrive
4pm – 5:45pm: Balboa Park musical entertainment
5pm – 8pm: Friday Night Alive! Late Museum Hours
5:45pm – 6:45pm: SDYS Pre-concert performances by Symphonic Strings and Diversity Heights (a Community Big Band from City Heights led by SDYS Overture Strings Conductor Chris Lea)
7:00pm – 8:15pm: Symphony Orchestra and Wind Orchestra performances
This family-friendly evening of music, food, festival atmosphere and fun will get your summer season off on the right foot as Balboa Park celebrates its 150th Anniversary.
There’ll be seating and picnic tables in the Plaza to enjoy your food truck grub while listening to the concert. Or bring a blanket and a picnic and enjoy this free celebration of all things summer!
See you there!
