Where Art Meets the Earth: REGENERATE! Returns to Coastal Roots Farm

There’s something special about watching live performance unfold outdoors as the sun dips toward the horizon, and Coastal Roots Farm in Encinitas is bringing that experience back in a bigger way than ever.

REGENERATE! Eco-Performance Fest is back for its third year, and this edition is the most ambitious one yet. Spread across the farm’s working landscape, the afternoon blends original performance, ecological storytelling, Jewish tradition, and good food into something that’s hard to put in a box – and honestly, that’s the whole point.

Four Performances, One Afternoon

The festival is structured in two parts, with each half featuring two simultaneous performance streams. Basically, you choose your own adventure. Pick which performances to follow in Part 1, then reconvene for the Intermission Party before diving back in for Part 2.

Four new works are on the program, each created by artists from the Jewish Climate Artists for California Incubator – a nine-month program developed by the Farm:

• At Rise – a new play with live music by Dan Schifrin, exploring Jewish mysticism
• Eden and Exile – an original dance work by choreographer Livya Howard-Yashar
• Kaddish – a community ecological ritual led by Michelle Shofat, set inside the farm’s food forest
• Hear This Hereness – improvised songs and stories from Brother Man (Heavy Meadow and Jake Chapman), rooted in the land and the moment

The Party in the Middle

The Intermission Party is worth showing up for on its own. Between the two performance halves, there’s food, music, and a chance to mix with the artists and the crowd against the backdrop of the farm itself. It’s a nice exhale before the second half kicks off.

You can come for just one half (Part 1 or Part 2) plus the party, or stay for the full experience. Either way, you’re getting something genuinely different from your average weekend outing.
